Finesse & Elegance Above Power

meet the winemaker

Jeff Hundertmark

An award-winning Winemaker and Sommelier, Jeff relocated to B.C. in 2017 after an illustrious career in Ontario, including Marynissen Estate Winery and Stoney Ridge Estate Winery, where he was able to produce Estate wines as well as the successful celebrity brand for the Tragically Hip and his own label 100Marks.

The winemaking philosophy behind each bottle is something he takes very seriously. Jeff believes there is a place for wines to be cherished for years; as big age-worthy collectables, but also as important, there is a place for fresh wines ready for early consumption.

The wines

At Mt. Boucherie Estate, our mission is to express four distinct sites within the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys – The Golden Mile Bench, Okanagan Falls, South Cawston, and West Kelowna. We celebrate these unique terroirs by crafting distinctive wines that draw on low yields, honest winemaking, and patient ageing.

Our wines are produced in five distinct tiers.

SUMMIT AND CONTESSA

Summit and Contessa are the pinnacles of our effort, showcasing the best blocks, berries, and barrels from our 150 acres of vines. While Summit leans towards a more traditional blend of Merlot and Cabernets, Contessa has no set recipe and is simply inspired by the harvest and what impressed Jeff and his team most. Contessa made only in the choicest vintages. Cellar these wines for eight years and beyond.

RESERVE

Our Reserve tier of wines are typically blends of our various vineyards, which Jeff borrows from to add different layers of complexity. From the cooler reaches of Okanagan Falls to the warmest pockets of South Cawston, each vineyard contributes a unique note to the finished wine. Typically aged anywhere from 12 to 22 months in barrel, these wines are meant to age gracefully in your cellar for five-eight years.

WHITE LABEL

Our white label wines are made in an approachable, refreshing style meant for early consumption, but with an ability to age short term. Primarily from our Similkameen Valley site, these wines carry the region's hallmark characteristic of ripe fruit, balanced by spicy/savoury notes and fresh acids.

ORIGINAL VINES

With vineyards first established in the 80's and 90's we felt it was time to really hone in on some of these old blocks, keeping them separate from our other families of wines. Jeff has treated the fruit as gently as possible and made every effort to give the best reflection of these choice sites as possible through careful fruit selection, sorting, and finally cellaring. These wines are meant to age at least six years and some well beyond. Exclusive to the winery.

MODEST WINES

We couldn't have a Modest Butcher Kitchen without some Modest Wines to pair. This collection of wines is made in the spirit of experimentation and risk-taking while paying homage to classic regions of the wine world. These wines are made based on the season, varietals at hand and on the whim of the winemaker's experimental tendencies; each year will bring a new set of fresh concepts and flavours. Exclusive to the winery.
